Working with Oyster Partners, I was asked to create a Shockwave game for the Take 2 Interactive web site, to promote a new PlayStation game, "Monkey Hero". The idea was to hint at the type of gameplay you would find in the real game. A small scene in Monkey Hero teaches you the controls for using firecrackers to defeat opponents. I had to reproduce this scene in a Shockwave game. I was given some of the original game assets (such as character sprites and sounds) and a beta of the game, which was still in development. I recreated the scene graphics by video-grabbing from the PlayStation game itself. Shockwave can't match the full visual experience of the PlayStation, so the challenge was to match the feel of the gameplay whilst working within the restrictions of the web. |
