Apple CD-ROM Software 5.3.2 - Latest and greatest drivers for all Apple CD-ROMs, including those for PowerBook expansion bays.

AppleVision Software 1.5.2 - Display software for all AppleVision and AudioVision monitors. Includes the new DigitalColor Meter application for AppleVision displays. The software is provided as three disk image files in Apple's new Disk Copy 6.1 format - you need to download Disk Copy 6.1.2 to mount these.

CFM-68K 4.0 - For quite a few months, Apple has publicly acknowledged a bug in the previous versions of the CFM-68K Enabler, used only on 68K Macs in conjunction with OpenDoc, LaserWriter 8.4.x and some third-party software. This version fixes the bug - get it now to avoid possible data corruption from earlier versions. Also includes ObjectSupportLib 1.2.

Claris Emailer 2.0 60-Day Trial - The final release version 2 of Claris' e-mail application is shipping. Featuring a redesigned interface visually similar to that of Claris Organizer 2, most buttons have been moved onto a toolbar, and folders are now much more prominent. Also, mail items are no longer stored as individual files on your hard disk but in a faster, compact, single-file database. The trial version is fully-functional for 60 days. Highly recommended.

Cyberdog 2.0 - Apple's much-anticipated revamped suite of Internet tools has finally shipped. The good news is that is supports frames, animated GIFs, and 68K Macs. However, Cyberdog's bittersweet tale has a couple more twists. Cyberdog, and OpenDoc on which it runs, have both been ditched by Apple in its recent restructuring, halting their future development. However, it seems Cyberdog will be integrated into Mac OS 8. Give it a try and stay tuned.

Disk Copy 6.1.2 - A major upgrade to Apple's disk copying/image utility. This version allows you to mount disk image files on the desktop as virtual floppy disks. It adds scripting abilities, supports all past image formats and introduces a new, more compact format as well. All future disk image files from Apple will be distributed in this format, so make sure you get this utility.

Fetch 3.0.3 - The latest update of this highly competent FTP client adds resumable-interrupted downloads. Indispensable.

Internet Explorer 3.01 - Although very similar to version 3.0, this update does add better support for Java, JScript, and finally a version for 68K Macs.

Mac OS 7.6.1 Update (US) - A set of bug fixes for Mac OS 7.6, but only for the US version. Entirely useless to those of us still running systems before 7.6, or non-US 7.6.

Mac OS Runtime for Java 1.0.2 - This final release version of Apple's Java implementation supports both PowerPC and 68030/040 Macs. Consider it essential.

Marimba Bongo 1.0 Alpha 4 - A Java-authoring environment for creating Marimba's Castanet "channels". Make sure you also get Mac OS Runtime for Java. Having said that, this is alpha software - all it did for me was crash the Mac. Maybe you'll see this thing in action.

Marimba Castanet Tuner 1.0 - Heralded as part of the next generation of "Push Media", Castanet is meant to be more of an interactive media-rich experience than the web is currently. The "Tuner" software allows you to subscribe to Castanet "channels" over the Internet. The content is Java-based, so you'll also have to get Mac OS Runtime for Java. If this is the future, you ought to check it out. Be patient though - this beta causes many disconcerting "pauses".

NetFinder 1.1.2 - A new shareware FTP client featuring Finder-style list views and resumable-interrupted downloads. Although released only a few weeks ago, it has already been through a number of updates. Looks like it will probably go through some more, as it's still a bit buggy.

Now Startup Manager 7.5 - Now Software's commercial startup management software is aimed at serious control freaks. Pitched as an alternative to Apple's Extensions Manager, and the commercial product Conflict Catcher, this is being offered for free on the Internet for a limited time.

OpenDoc 1.2 - Latest, and possibly last version of the component-ware document-centric architecture, for both PowerPC and 68K Macs. The troubles for 68K users have been resolved with CFM-68K 4.0 (included). OpenDoc's long road to stability has been punctuated with the recent news of its termination. In true Apple style it was cut down just as it looked like it had a chance. What a waste.

PointCast Network 1.0.1 - This is the final release of the "original" Internet info screen-saver, for Power Macs only. A 68K version will follow eventually, but the time it took to make it to the Mac at all shows where PointCast's priorities lie. Watch out, After Dark Online 2 is on the horizon.

Quid Pro Quo 1.0 - Possibly the best value in Web server software on the Mac today. It supports WebStar plug-ins, offers excellent performance, and is absolutely free. Although not as fast as WebStar 2, this rivals both commercial and shareware alternatives, outperforming them in most cases. If you want to set up a fast dedicated Mac web server, you must try this out.

Shockwave Flash 2 Beta 3 - A public beta of the forthcoming upgrade to Macromedia's recently acquired web-animation technology. Much less complex than Shockwave for Director, Flash allows you to create highly compact animations incorporating bitmap graphics, vector graphics, sound, and interaction.

Shockwave Universal Installer 13 - Yet another update for Macromedia's suite of Shockwave plug-ins. Supposedly, this addresses some security problems that surfaced in previous versions. Includes the Shockwave Flash 1.1 plug-in.

SK8 - Until recently, SK8 (pronounced "skate") spent many years hidden away inside Apple; then somebody decided to unleash it on the world. SK8 is a complex multimedia authoring environment that can output standalone applications and Java. It has full documentation, even the source code, and it's free to download. Lurking beneath its rather hideous interface is no doubt a very powerful authoring environment. Give it a go. Grotesque Windows of the Month Award-winner.

Symantec Visual Page 1.0 30-Day Demo - The latest addition to an increasingly crowded market for WYSIWYG web authoring. It seems to be a fairly solid application, but with Claris Home Page, Adobe PageMill, and even MS Front Page thrashing it out, it raises the question: "Why?" For what it's worth, it can preview Java applets and table cell background colours.
