Consulting Services

Cellular Handset Distribution Market Research (Market intelligence): On behalf of a telecommunications research and consulting firm, BDA conducted a major market investigation involving simultaneous research in six cities located across China. Market intelligence gathered from extensive interviews with regulators, distributors and retailers included pricing trends and handset distribution patterns.

MPT Financing Seminar (Regulatory analysis): On behalf of the Corporate Finance department of a major global investment bank, BDA initiated and ran a regulatory and financing seminar involving an unprecedented degree of cooperation between the then Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPT, now MII) and BDA's client. The two-day seminar, held at the MPT's offices, brought together the Finance Department of MPT, Finance Directors from 13 PTAs and Telpo, the Hong Kong financing arm of MPT. The seminar, which included a meeting with MPT Vice Minister Yang Xianzu, identified a capital raising model consistent with existing regulations which served as an inspiration for the successful launch of China Telecom (Hong Kong) Limited.

Mobile Investment Opportunity Evaluation (Strategic advisory): On behalf of the direct investment arm of a major European financial institution, BDA conducted a 'buy side' due diligence assignment with respect to a mobile communications investment opportunity in a coastal province. The assignment involved interviews with regulatory officials both at the central level and in the province concerned. BDA also interviewed company personnel and trial customers of the target company's network. Accessing BDA's database of industry statistics and projections, BDA benchmarked the company's financial and operating projections in a DCF model.

Telecommunications Equipment Market Analysis: Changes in the China market share of major equipment vendors increasingly can have a material impact on share prices. BDA has provided briefings to vendors as well as to institutional investors researching China telecommunications-related investment opportunities in China and on overseas exchanges. Vendors and institutional investors alike increasingly look to the independent, on-the-ground and authoritative advice provided in Beijing by BDA to complement in-house research prepared in Hong Kong or overseas.

BDA's assistance enabled our client in Switzerland to be the first European operator to offer commercial roaming services in China. BDA also coordinated the visit of MPT Minister Wu Jichuan to Switzerland, where the China roaming service was celebrated as our client's 100th international roaming partnership.

Investment Advisory Services

Valuation and Business Plan Preparation: BDA assisted a China-based nationwide Internet access provider in valuation and partnering discussions with foreign strategic and financial investors.

Partnership Negotiation: BDA assisted a computer software company in Beijing in preparations for discussions with a U.S.-based investment bank which culminated in a venture capital investment of several million U.S. dollars.
